Accurate & Realistic Advice with Samos Consulting

Avoid making wrong and costly decisions. Before making that big decision about coming New Zealand to work make sure you can gain employment in your profession by getting the right advice.

Too often professionals (medical and others) make the choice to come to New Zealand and begin a costly process of engaging immigration consultants to assist in lodging applications for residency, before investigating the requirements to practise in their profession.

After spending in excess of $10,000 (NZ) with immigration consultants to gain residency, immigrants then focus their attention on finding employment. Some subsequently find to that they are unable to work in their chosen profession because their qualifications and training are not considered comparable to those obtained in New Zealand.

Retraining and examination (oral and written) is often required. The opportunity cost of this exercise can be very high. Career paths are interrupted or in some cases cease. Some find themselves working in unsatisfying, low paid jobs for 2 or 3 years while trying to retrain/upskill, pass exams and support families.

During the early 1990’s a large number of international medical graduates gained residency in New Zealand only to find they could not practise medicine here. Although they had obtained points with the New Zealand Immigration Service toward residency because they held medical degrees they were not able to meet the required standards for gaining registration/licensure in New Zealand. Some unfortunately never practised medicine again.
